about Alpha

Alpha Resource Center empowers individuals with intellectual

and developmental disabilities throughout Santa Barbara County by

supporting families,

creating opportunities,

and fostering belonging.

In the early 1950s, three mothers of children with developmental disabilities began to change the landscape by pursing educational opportunities for their children.

Their success grew into the Alpha Resource Center of today!

Now, there are new mothers (and fathers and people with developmental disabilities) seeking similar groundbreaking opportunities for their children (and themselves) in fields like visual arts, culinary arts and food service, performing arts, job support, and the list goes on.

The specifics have changed, but the desire and motivation remain the same.

Your gift to Alpha Resource Center will make the dreams of tomorrow possible!

Alpha Culinary Arts Program

Inaugural Fundraiser

Saturday, February 22

4:30p to 6:30p

Serenity Garden

Alpha Resource Center

4501 Cathedral Oaks Road, Santa Barbara

The evening will include light appetizers, wine, and beer, which are all included with your ticket cost, along with the opportunity to be part of an exclusive group kicking Phase 1 of the culinary program expansion into motion.

A silent auction and a live auction feature multiple chances to support individuals like Jordan, Raquel, and Matthew as they pursue their dream of becoming culinary artists! The setting is the magical Serenity Garden at Alpha Resource Center, a hidden masterpiece tucked away just off of Cathedral Oaks Road.

To top off the evening, our culinary team of the future will be baking a treat providing another way to show your support and quite literally enjoy the fruits (or more accurately, the baked goods) of your generosity.

The Culinary Arts program at Alpha Resource Center supports the development of culinary and food service skills for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, leading to the possibility of paid-work opportunities in South Santa Barbara County, California.

Our objectives are:

  • to introduce participants to professional standards and practices;

  • expand Alpha Resource Center’s existing lunch-service program;

  • create new opportunities for skill development through instruction by qualified staff;
